The TAD 6L6WGC-STR BLACKPLATE™ offers a compact interpretation of the traditional small-bottle RCA 6L6 design. It provides the warm lower-mid character and smooth upper register associated with the original 1950s and 60s versions, while maintaining a controlled response in both clean and driven settings. The tube’s tonal profile makes it well suited for classic tweed and blackface amplifiers.

This model follows the construction principles of vintage RCA 6L6GC and 5881 types, using black-plate anodes, a side-getter structure, and carefully selected materials derived from original stock. Production resumed in early 2025, and each tube is tested and selected to ensure consistent behaviour. Its dimensions and operating characteristics allow it to replace 6L6WGB and 5881 types in amplifiers where the smaller bottle format is required.

It features a black-plate system, gold grid wire, double-getter design, low-noise filaments, a heavy-duty glass envelope, and Premium Selection and matching by TAD in Germany.
